More news of progress! Any day now, Vernon will be transferred to a sub-acute care center. The hospital case-workers have finally found a placement for him. He will be in a relatively close facility in Buena Park, a 45 minute drive away. And he will be transported by ambulance every other day to a dialysis center another 10 miles away from there. I am hoping a new and active routine will provide necessary stimulation. He is ready for the next level. I am ready for the change too. (Weird. I never realized marriage contained so many parallels till now.) It will be nice to start having a regular schedule. We can begin to plan visits around physical therapy, routine dialysis, etc. A few weeks ago, changing to another facility felt threatening, but now I think we are BOTH stronger.
I’ll be checking in on the new place tomorrow. I’m not sure when he will be moving.
But in the meantime, we continue to decorate the current nest. Here are some friends bringing in more beautification. Even if he can’t visually see everything yet, I think he knows the love is there. And with a camera always around my neck or my iphone in my hand, at least he can look at the pictures later. (No photo or it didn’t happen, right?)
Isn’t this banner great? Not to mention those smiles?
(He’s not in a coma, just taking a nap. Sorry Vern, not your most alert look, but I love this picture. You just look so…saintly.))
I know this next note is for him, but it might as well be for me, because in some parallel universe, Eddie Izzard is my best friend. Check it out: a get well card from our (um, MY) favorite comedian/smart guy in the world. Gosh! (No, we don’t know him, but a close friend is directing a film with him and he mentioned Vernon’s story. STILL!)
(This is on a page of a script that hasn’t been released yet…thus the blur.)

thank you Mimi! I love you! And I love that you are committed to supporting our story. mwah!
Allison-every night I wait for your “day by day” post, and like many of your silent readers it makes me cry and hurt when you’re frustrated and lost. And it makes me smile and praise God when Vernon triumphs and you are filled with joy. I’m so glad that you (and Vern) are ready for the next big move into the unknown. And thank you for being so open on yours and your families behalf so that we all know how to openly and honestly pray for and support you. Now that you’ll have a bit of a drive involved in your routine please let us all know if meals or any other needs arise.
“And I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on, a glorious light beyond all compare.” -Matt Redmond
Worshipping and praying with you.
Thanks Dana! I will. We loved your meal last time. Yummers! I keep thinking Ill run into you at Mission. But we aren’t in your ward, I suppose. The kids and I have dealt a lot with Lisa and Connie, the Child Life Specialists. They are AMAZING. I’ll miss them so much…but the kids have probably already moved on, they are so cool! As you know…kids are.
another uplifting post Allison ..looks like vern is on the move, another big step, will have to go use google map for that, see where it is . great photo , lovely to see christine, you are blessed to have so many “creative” friends and family xx love the banner xx is that photo of you and vern under the banner the picture from that restuarant in Charminster, where the four of us went out for the evening , while my parents looked after the children??
COME ON VERN!! TIME TO WAKE UP !! love to you and vern , as always xx
ps ~eddie izzard hey!! know you loved him ..vern often shared some of his standup with me..and quoted some of his one liners ..we need some laughs don`t we!!COME ON VERN … LAUGHS!!we need that twinkle of your eyes!!
Yes! That twinkle. We all miss it. But I expect it will be soon. And the laughter too. Soon. I remember that night in Charminster at our fave Lebanese restaurant we would always visit. We should have had more of those nights out, don’t you think? 🙂 But that pic was actually a ‘selfie’ from Spitalfields in London, many years ago. At least we have the pic though, a rare thing.
Yes we should have left the children with my patents more and had some “time” just the four of us ….but we had fun times with the children..xmas’s at the Adams’s was always entertaining … or coming over to the Corbins…never a dull moment….good memories to carry around just now xx
That is FANTASTIC news! Vernon is truly blessed to have a loving wife and such amazing medical care. Please know that your family is in the thoughts and prayers of so many people, even some you don’t know.
Big thanks and hugs back to you, Etienne. Thank you for being a constant friend back to Vernon. xoxo
So thankful the hear the “full throttle prayers” were answered with a yes and The Lord gave you some much needed encouragement. We will continue to pray and read about Vern’s progress. I was thinking, like you thought that maybe kicking up the music to more toe tapping… I know I have to move when I hear certain songs.
Dear Allison,
Were in Buena Park is the care facility located? We used to live in Buena Park. Just sending prayers that all will work out for both of you. God is with you both and He will care for Vernon and you.
Love,
Becky
My daughter/your cousin Hannah worked in a sub-acute hospital as an OT with TBI patients. She gets your blog and keeps me abreast of things from her perspective. Nice that you are moving to the next step and that God has prepared you for this now, rather than earlier. We love you all madly and pray CONTINUALLY.
Hoping the move for the first time went well for you. Praying and loving and sending healing that I truly believe is happening every moment in profound ways in and for you both. <3
Your photo is beautiful Ali, very saintly and a great subject for a new painting.
