Vernon Adams Font T-Shirt Now Available

I’m a fan of Vernon Adams, the font designer. I’ve been a freelance graphic designer for the past ten years, so it wasn’t too much of a stretch for me to be intrigued with his craft. And because his wife Allison has been one of my dearest friends, it just worked out that I was able to share a small creative office with Vernon here in San Clemente before his accident. It is such a good memory having that time and space, where friends, colleagues and family would drop to connect and collaborate, and we’d get some of our work done too.

I’ve always felt honored to know Vernon as a friend, but also as this incredibly talented person, who contributed some of the best work to the Google Fonts project. If you search for Vernon Adams over at the Google Fonts page (https://www.google.com/fonts) — you’ll see his credits for over 50 of the 708 fonts in the directory. One of his most popular, is the script font named Pacifico. I recall Vernon often being amused and happy to see all the different ways people would make use of it, just check out his Pinterest board to see!

When Allison began planning this years Craft Market, I had the idea to display Vernon’s work in a screen printed T-shirt to share with everyone. Chris mentioned the idea with Vernon at his Thanksgiving visit, and to then have Vernon encourage me in the idea left me with no option but to make it happen. So, here it is, the first Vernon Adams font T-shirt featuring some of his great work. I hope he likes it and you do too!

Love and Light — A Thank You From England

Letter from Vernon’s Mum, Dad & Sister Vanessa

Having seen the beautiful photographs, and comments, regarding the recent Craft Market that Allison entered on her blog, I feel I must send a message relaying the gratitude of Vernon’s family in England to all you wonderful folk who supported this event.

To say a mere “Thank you very much” sounds so inadequate when we think of all the thought, planning, ideas, detail and time that must have gone before the Craft Market could be officially opened.

That you gave your time so willingly to produce such works of art and then allowed them to be sold for the benefit of raising funds for Vernon’s family is such an act of unconditional caring and love.

To add to this you then turned around and put your hands into your pockets and bought so many objects that others had donated.

If only we could have been there with you and joined in the happiness that must have abounded, after so many months of sadness.

We are planning to visit Vernon and his family in March, next year and really hope that we are able to meet some of you then.

Thank you to those of you who are still able to visit our dear son in Hospital.  We also thank you all for the Prayers you have said for Vernon throughout these last seven long months, and for the many Prayers that are still being said for his full recovery.

May God Bless you all.

In Love and Light.

Hi Friends,

This is Ali and Vern’s friend Jen, just dropping in for a small update. Last time I posted here, it was mid-August and Vernon had just been transferred to Kindred. I was beaming along with Ali at this great environment for healing. And hasn’t it proven so? Here we are two months since that transition and Vernon is talking with us, proving his strength, and rocking out with us to some of his favorite music…The Jam.

During our visit, we crossed over to the topic of the accident, which I had known he doesn’t fully believe yet. And in true Vernon style, he commented that we “don’t even have documentation“. We thought, well, in fact we do have some proof. And just like we were back up at our office, I got my laptop computer and shared a few photos to show that indeed we did have some documentation. Ali captured this moment below.

It wasn’t too much of a reaction, but we did seem to have his temporary sense of appeasement. I imagine as Vern continues to heal, we may have to recount this story for him from time to time along the way. For now, he says he remembers me, that we rode the train to work together. OK, well today made me smile. I am so thankful to be able to share with you I had my first conversations with our friend in nearly 5 months. A cool moment indeed.
