Bugs. Germs. Infections. Isolation. Its all par for the course in long hospital stays. But its no fun for Vernon or his loved ones.
JUST SAY NO TO SUPERBUGS!
He has been in the hospital for 12 weeks now and has been in isolation for two. I must say he has done pretty well, staying healthy for most of his time there.
Fortunately, his visitors—as long as we cover up and wash properly—are safe from germs. But we have to suit up to keep the virus from spreading elsewhere in the hospital.
Above: my mother, Anne, visiting with Vernon earlier today.
Vernon has continued to show physical progress this week, as well as showing more and more awareness of his visitors and the names/suggestions we drop into our conversations with him (can we call them such?)
However, this past week he has seemed weak and tired in our interactions. He still fights to work and communicate as he can, though. After the big breakthroughs of the past weeks, I had been concerned that his brain was going back under the water, despite his recent improvements. But today, the doctor walked me through the list of the infections he has at the moment (as well as what he has been receiving as treatment.) He explained that Vernon’s current exhausted state is due to the fact that his body is fighting so hard against the infections.
I know it has been a long haul so far. And so many of our friends/readers have been faithful in keeping Vernon in their thoughts and prayers, despite how long this has been going on. And yet again, I ask for you to lift him up in your hearts. He will certainly have an amazing story to tell…even if we have to fill in the details for him later.
I get it. I understand this is typical of vulnerable long-term patients like Vernon. But it is hard to watch my loved-one feel sick, whether it be a flu at home or an infection in the hospital. Lets make it go away!
In gratitude always,
Allison

I have been healed by God of MRSA. Many of you have read my testimony of healing in Testify the book! In the Greek the very word testify means do it again so please agree with me in prayer that by His Stripes Vernon would be healed and just as He healed me He would do it again!
yep, Annie, MRSA is one of them…and another is called Acinetobacter, which is apparently the in-virus. How hip.
PS ANNIE…thank you. yes! we will TAKE the healing…again!
Annie, we just gave this book to one of our staff to ready the testimonies! Specifically Scott Bailey’s, as they are coming here tomorrow, but I’m sure she will ready the rest, including yours 🙂 We keep it in our cafe on the shelf for all to read – a gift to us from Scott and Jeanette Nelson, wonderful friends of ours. What an awesome compilation of God’s glorious wonders in the lives of His children. Vernon and Allison’s is unfolding…
Praying for those bugs to leave. Praying for good rest for all of you, both physically and mentally. Much love to you!!!
You know what I am talking about, having your husband so recently in the hospital with similar attacks.
Allison,
Hope those bugs get out of there and leave Vernon to progress on his way back to being a health young man.
Prayers are still be said for him.
Becky
I know you have a big group of praying people, Becky. Thank you always for that. I know supernatural prayer works so I hope you pass this new news on to your friends. Thank you, again!
Tonight my sweet friend I am sending you BIG ((((HUGS))))
Hugs received!
Sorry to hear of these setbacks. As a nurse I know this is not uncommon, but still trying and tiring for all concerned. Randy & I continue to offer our prayers for you and Vernon, knowing that all things work together for good for those who love God. Hugs to you all!
thank you, Aunt Barbara. I know you understand. We are still at Mission. For now.
We are praying! YES TO VERNON’S HEALING! INfections be GONE! In JESUS NAME! We love you Vernon and Allison! xoxo
Praying for healing from the infections!
Allison, we continue to pray for Vernon’s healing and especially for the infections that are present. I got an infection after one of my surgeries and had antibiotics via a pic line which I had inserted for a month. That was hell, for me and Chris. I understand your agony as you watch your loved one fight. And rest. And succeed. And rest. And fight. And rest. And succeed. And rest. And fight…… Praying for all of you, for strength for this journey. You are amazing and such a loving wife, care giver, mother. Oh Lord, please breath you healing breath into Vernon’s lungs, breath of life and healing. Now!
Today I read this verse-” The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man (woman) avails much” James 5:16. Know that we continue to stand with you in our prayers.
Hi Allison,
I have been reading every post but haven’t commented lately…I will fill you in later. I wanted to let you know though that I still read and pray and think of you both often. I am not a fan of MRSA and I’ll be praying they can get rid of that and that hip new super bug!! Hang in there, I know what a long marathon of a journey it is. But I’m still hoping and praying that it has a wonderful ending. Xoxo
Allison, I don’t know why, but I woke up this morning around 3:30–and you both on my mind and had a peaceful moment of prayer for Vernon and you as well. Loving you and continued prayers for his healing and strength. Keep fighting, my dear! xoxox
God is in control. Healing prayers being sent your way. Love and hugs from PA.
Always praying but not always commenting here.
I love you all and am praying for miracles big and small to encourage your spirits and heal your bodies.
Much love to you all and licks from “Arch-erd” to Justine.
Sending super prayers to Vernon and those that care for him that they be guided by His love and infinite wisdom. And a big hug for momma for shouldering all of this. You are stronger than you know.
Glad to hear about Vernon’s progress. I will pray for healing from the infections. It is amazing what he has survived and we believe he will be back to a normal life sometime. It would be nice for you and your family if it would be sooner, but God is in control.
