Vernon. You told me how you wanted to raise these kids. I didn’t always agree with you. But now I’m now I’m on my own trying to do it both our ways. I was doing fine until you keep showing up in my mind. Now I keep doing it your way, despite what I intended. No fair.

Good evening, Allison…I’ve only written once before, not long after Vernon’s accident, however, after reading this latest post I couldn’t help but chuckle when your remark reminded me of the saying…”Can’t live with them, can’t live without them”, when referring to parenting styles. Both you & your kiddos are going through some very significant mountains & valleys, induced by both the natural changes of growing up, as well as the loss of your family leader. Carrying this “mantle” will be heavy sometimes, but there’s no doubt you’re up for it. God is so good to give us just one day at a time. Sometimes we are successful, other times not so much, but all the time He gives us the Strengh and Grace we need. Parenting can be a bear, as well as the most joyful, satisfying thing we’re called to do. God is our greatest example…look how patient He is with us! You and your not-so-littles are equipped…even for this time. Keep your armor on, dear Allison. I know for sure that they will grow and remember you with a smile.
I haven’t written in a while, but so appreciate your sharing your journey, even after Vernon’s passing. Couldn’t help but chuckle at today’s comments. He is still so close to all of you, might be a struggle for you but super special for Maki & Justine as you continue to “do battle” with Vernon.
Hi, didnt see this one before now:) Funny, I have changed too. Vernon was right in a lot of ways, and Maki at least is shaped by his thinking – but Maki reminds me of some of my relatives (and myself). Talked to Maki about it – he is strong willed and independent – has to learn to tick boxes, but a little conversation and Maki-time (you do that without even thinking) is more important than anything else.
