“Art is not a part of life, it is not an addition to life, it is the essence of those pieces of us that make us fulfilled. That give us hope. That give us dreams and provide the world a view very different than what it would have been without us.” Hasan Davis
I am gushing a little on the concept of ART tonight as we got a special gift in the mail yesterday from a wonderfully talented photographer, Vicki Liantonio, a longtime Instagram-mate. These prints are too beautiful not to share. (Excuse my bad iphonography, it doesn’t do them justice.
You can buy some of her cool stuff on the cheap here.
Anyway…it was such a touching gift from the heart for our whole family (and will grace Vernon’s wall, while we still have some space at the hospital.)
As Picasso said: “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” I feel refreshed just looking at these prints.
Vernon continues to make progress. Because of the infections, he is receiving new medication and is a little worn out. Today his breakthrough was all in the expression of his eyebrows. A lift here, a furrow there. No words necessary. If you know him, you will understand that this return to intriguing subtlety (a coma state is a little TOO subtle for us) is very encouraging. We are getting our one-of-a-kinder back, a movement, an expression at a time.
Today marks the end of week 10, Day 70.

cheers to progress on any level! continued hugs and prayers…
I love that quote by Picasso. That is SO true! Art takes you out of the time continuum for a split second, and transfers you into the present moment. These pictures are amazing, thanks for posting, Allison. A thousand days and one day are the same in eternity. May God love you into the moment, often.
A thousand days and one are the same in eternity. How do you like them apples, right? Or should I say: How do you like watching them apples grow? 🙂 I’ll be chewing on the eternity thought for awhile. Thanks for making me think bigger, No
rm.
Being 3000 miles away, it feels really good in my heart to be able to “be with” and support you guys in this small way. Lots of love. xoxo 🙂
you are very much a part of it…and you are immortalized on our walls and albums now. Part of the experience in print…even though the pictures are from Philadelphia! City of Brotherly Love, right?
And, as some people like to add, “sisterly affection”! 😉
Thats awsome about the eyebrow. Thats as good as starting to talk! I was trying to think how long time it took for my dad to be able to give People a hug – not just recieve them – it was a long time, and now ofcourse you get the biggest, longest hugs from him, but With Vernon practicing his arm movements so much it might not be so long off – and he will be able to use both arms. (May dad cant move his right arm).
Pizzahut has opened in Matamata, and were off to try it out. Lots of love.
I know that you understand about that EYEBROW action, Synnøve. And I know that Maki will understand, too. The many things Vernon did/didn’t say with just the lift of an eyebrow spoke volumes. I’m laughing thinking about it now. So thankful again to have the you two on this journey with us. I had forgotten your dad couldn’t move his right arm. Was he right handed to start? Have fun at Pizza Hut…Matamata has it all now! (as far as the kids are concerned, at least!) 🙂
Pizzahut was great, but half the town was there, so a bit of a wait.Yes we are are so With you from over here – will look for you on skype. Yes my dad was right handed, but the right hand went spastic quite quickly. They worked on it a lot, but sort of gave up a bit – I guess because he managed well without it.
Talk soon, lots of love
sometimes that is all that matters. Too much work can kill the spirit, I suppose! I love hearing about your dad and his story.
ey up!! ..the eyebrow has risen!!! yep vern is coming back,,his eyebrows speak a thousand words…. ..love you lots ..as always say hi to vern from me xx
YOU know what I’m talking about….not to make fun, but it can be quite humorous, the moments he choses to raise an eyebrow. We probably read into it a bit, but it makes us feel he is joining in in his own old way.
today vern seems like a new canvas…everyday a new feature!
love and prayers, sudie
I love that idea, Sudie. I know you GET IT. Love you!
I was googling my name tonight, curious to see what came up… and i am so glad to be reminded of this post, and my gifts to you, despite how small! Love you guys…
Hi Vicki! xoxo Thank you, then and now.
