I got a call late last night that Vernon had returned to Mesa Verde after having an ultrasound on his arm. The tests ran negative and there was no clot, and since he received no new treatment, I mentally prepared myself for a difficult morning. My friend Susan offered to come along. I figured I’d need her for moral support, at least.
We found him surprisingly alert, his face thinner, and yesterday’s swollen hand shrunk down considerably. The doctor is perplexed on how he could have changed for the better so quickly, but I’m not complaining. I don’t know what we will find tomorrow, but this is a remarkable change today.
Susan and I asked him questions about Norway and then what he knew about World War II (don’t ask me how we arrived at either subject.) Here is a little lesson in European History, brought to you by Professor Vernon P. Adams.
The video cuts off right when Susan says: “You’ve got a great memory.”
To which he replied: “I HAVE got a great memory.”

Thank you Vern for that history lesson .oh dear “shot them up the arse”!! don`t let mum hear you say that!!!! (smiles)..ofcause Vern has lots of stories from WW2 Norway … i remember we spent a great time walking round the Oslo armed forces museum and the resistance museum..he is right ..the Norwegians suffered at the hands of the Germans ..they had a great resistance army ..Paul and Vern really enjoyed that day …. maybe you can find one of the films for vern to watch ???
so pleased the swelling seems to have gone down a bit ..hope they find what is causing it .. have to say i was a bit angry .. as the care home had not sent him to the hospital before you had visited ..so pleased they listen to you Allison .. hope you find him in good spirits on thursday xx
xx love to you all xx
i wondered how he knew so much…though I remember him enjoying ww2 history very much, he used to watch documentaries and the like. It makes sense he would have learned some of this at the museum. It is very specific, isn’t it? “You name it, they were shot there.” Haha, that made me laugh. It may just be a miracle. i don’t know. The care home only can send him to the hospital if they recognize an emergency. I was more annoyed that the hospital sent him back too soon. But Dr. Dan made the call, his decisions on these things trump all. I wonder if we will ever know what it was…hopefully it won’t return. He also isn’t that interested in water anymore. So something changed! For the better? We shall see! 🙂
paul and i have watched the video so many times last night .. especially the bit ” shot in the arse ” with real change of voice for “arse” .. i could see a twinkle in his eye as he said that ..almost like he was going to say arm ..and changed it like a naughty child!! sorry Vern but it made us laugh so much, we can see the old vern returning … love you xx
lets hope the swelling doesn`t return ..so pleased you have dr dan
xx love to you all xx
Good news about no clot and swelling going down! We are praying for more unexpected healing…
Thanks for your prayers, Kirsten. Seems like they are working!
